Use reCaptcha in Clip-Bucket v2

Lately we’ve been receiving a lot of reports from users who every day have thousands and thousands of fake sign ups on their Clip-Bucket powered websites and are desperately looking for a solution. In an effort to stop or reduce these sign ups, I’m writing this so that everyone having this issue can finally fix it. We will use reCaptcha. Works for the whole v2 branch.

—–We will first generate our Public and Private keys required for reCaptcha to work—–

1. Go to and log in with your Google Account

2. Type in your website’s domain name

aaa13. Press Create Key

4. On this next screen, find the Public and Private keys and save them for later

—–We’ll now add our previously generated keys to reCaptcha—–

1. Browse your files either by FTP or with cPanel’s FIle Manager

2. Navigate to ./plugins/recaptcha/* and open install_recaptcha.php

3. Find the default Public key:

and replace it with the one that was generated before for your site.

aaa34. Find the default Private key:

and replace it with the one that was generated before for your site.

aaa45. Save & Upload.

—–Now, we’ll enable reCaptcha—–

1. Log into your admin_area (http://yoursite.tld/admin_area)

2. On the left column, under the Stats and Configurations tab, click on Website Configurations.z13. On the top 4 tabs, go to User Settings & Registration

4. Find the Image Verification (captcha) dropdown and select Secured

5. Scroll down and press Update Settings.

z46. Now, again on the left column, find the Plugin Manager tab, and go to the Plugin Manager

7. Make sure the plugin Provides ReCaptcha for your ClipBucket Websiteis installed and activated. If it is not, do it.

8. Make sure the plugin Signup Captcha is NOT installed.

Congratulations! You’ve now managed to enable reCaptcha on your website and finally stop all these spam sign ups for good. If for some reason you cannot get it working or you get stuck at any step, please do not hesitate to contact me so I can personally assist you in your specific situation. Any questions or comments are welcome!
