In today’s blog we’re going to talk about the database pruning system that is built into Dolphin 7. This system helps keep your database clean and clear of the debris that commonly occurs during the normal operation of your site. It is also import to familiarize yourself with this system if you DON’T want profiles, messages or greetings deleted automatically. We’ll begin by logging into the Dolphin admin section and clicking “Database Pruning” under the “Settings” menu on the left side of the screen.
You can see the options include messages, profiles, IP visits, banner views, greetings and expired membership levels.
The numbers on the left are the numbers of days to wait before the corresponding item is considered out of date and needs to be deleted. If you don’t want an item to EVER be deleted you can enter “0” or leave the space completely blank.
The items that have met the number of days you specify are deleted nightly at midnight when the cron job is executed.
That’s it, it’s a very simple and straight forward system. I would definitely recommend you take advantage of it to keep the size of your database manageable.
Until next time happy social networking!
