With SocialEngine a lot of users would like their community to be allowed to add HTML coding to their comment boxes for different members I.E VIP members can add HTML while non-paying members cannot add HTML.
Basic HTML is allowed through the set-up of SocialEngine but it is one of the most overlooked functions.
If you navigate to your Admin Panel, select Members -> Member Levels
Select the member group you would like to be allowed to use HTML within their permissions and click the relevant Edit button to adjust the permissions for that group.
As you scroll down the page you will see a heading Allow HTML in Comments? Here you can input the different HTML codes you would like to enable, 9 times out of 10 admins will just add the ones displayed as Example: b, img, a, embed, font . There are many different ones you allow a user to use.

Via your admin panel go to member levels and edit the one you require.
If you want to allow specific tags, you can enter them below (separated by commas). Example: b, img, a, embed, font
if this does not work for you maybe you should try using a 3rd party plugin for comments
how I do this as I do this, where I get that plugins
Many 3rd Parties create plugins for Social Engine, if you go to the following site http://www.socialengine.com/customize/se4/plugins and then search for advanced Comments and a list of 3rd Parties will show up
