Hello and welcome! In today’s blog I’ll show you how to use the “SMTP Mailer” module with your Dolphin 7.1 website. Before we begin, we need to install the module. A step by step guide on installing the Dolphin 7.1 base modules can be found here.
Once we have the module installed, we can access the settings by clicking “SMTP Mailer” under the “Modules” menu on the left side of the admin screen. From this screen, we can configure the mailer to our current server settings.
One of the most important settings is “SMTP server name or IP address” which should be set to “localhost” in most situations. Also, if the mailer does not work on your first attempt, try removing the check mark beside “SMTP Authentication”.
You can test the mailer between configuration changes to see if you were successful. The test email form is at the bottom of the configuration screen.
This module is very useful if you are having problems with emails from your site ending up in users spam folders, or not getting delivered at all. Some servers and ISPs don’t accept mail sent directly from PHP so SMTP is necessary.
Done! Now you will be able to send well-formed and structurally valid emails!
