OpenCart – Inreasing Memory Size Limit

When you sign up with a web host and install Open Cart whether you are on a shared hosting or a VPS, there is a Memory Limit already set in the PHP Configuration. Most is 20M by default. This works fine for the majority of store listing products. However, maybe you want to list 10,000 products at one time without categorizing them? While not recommended “ever”, this still might be a requirement of yours. The PHP MEMORY will not allow this and you will more than likely receive an error that looks like this:

Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 43148176 bytes)

Changing Memory Limit

php.ini: You can change the limit LOCALLY by adjusting the php.ini file. This is for most that are on Shared hosting and don’t have access to the PHP CONFIGURATION. The new line would look like this: ini_set('memory_limit','500M');

WHM: If you are on a VPS and have access to a WHM PANEL then login with your credentials and click on PHP CONFIGURATION EDITOR

Now find this line and change to your desired amount of memory:
