Alfresco have capabilities to manipulate images. Alfresco uses ImageMagikWork third party software to do operations on images. Image operations can be invoked through Rules or Actions. For Example create a rule which converts all incoming PNG images into JPG images and create copy of those images.
For all images which are uploaded into alfresco we can see their thumbnail in preview and listing of those images. Alfresco has thumbnail service which does this job for it. Whenever images are being uploaded alfresco invokes thumbnail service and create thumbnail image of image.
Geo Tagging of Images
Alfresco also have a feature where it can extract geo information stored in image like latitude and longitude information from images and associate those information as metadata. All images with that Geo Information can be viewed on Google maps. Details related to that feature can be found here.
Categorization of Images
This is one of the basic features of Alfresco where you can categorize contents by assigning category to it which makes it easier to browse through them. Even you can add tags to images to identify them.
Auto Extraction of Image Metadata
For Images which are taken through high configuration or professional cameras contains many information like “exposure time”,”camera”,”resolution” etc.,,When Image with all these information is being uploaded into alfresco it invokes metadata extractor and extract all such information and attach them as metadata in alfresco. So user can get all those information by going to image detail page of alfresco
