Elgg profiles and dashboards are widgetized. It is a good way to make your site more dynamic and easy to customize. However, there has been many requests made by our users on a better way to manage widgets. For that reason, in this tutorial, I will explain How to manage your widgets in elgg 1.8
1. First, download the Widget Manager plugin
2. Now, upload the plugin to the mod folder for installation. If you don’t know how to do that, read this article
3. Log into elgg as an Admin and go to the Administration Dashboard. Then go to sidebar menu “Configure -> Plugins”:
4. Look for the Widget Manager plugin and activate it:
5. Now, let’s configure it! Go to menu “Configure-> Settings-> Widget Manager“, and choose the settings that you want to apply to your elgg network:
6. After configuring the plugin, make sure to run upgrade.php If you don’t know how to do that, please read this article.
Widget manager will add better user interface for adding or removing widgets from either a profile or the Dashboard section. Not only that, it will give users the ability to have two, three or more dashboards, so that they can manage widgets easily, like an RSS feed page:
