On a previous post, I talked about how to install Facebook login in Elgg 1.7, but in 1.8 things are a little bit different and a new plugin is required for this release. In this article, I will give a step by step guide on how to enable Facebook login in Elgg 1.8.
1. First, we download the Facebook Connect Plugin from Chetan Varshney here
2. Unzip the file. After that, with an FTP manager, connect to your website public_html. Then, go the folder mod and upload the plugin in that folder:
3. Now, login as an administrator in your Elgg site. On the right side bar, click on Plugins:
4. Once you are in the plugin page, look for the plugin Facebook Connect and click on Activate:
5. After activating the plugin, you will see a link for settings. Click on it to add your Public and Private Facebook App Key:
6. When you click that link it will take you to the settings page of that plugin. There, put your Facebook App Key and click on save:
7. And that’s it. Now your users will be able to login to your site using Facebook:
I hope you have found this article useful. If you experience problems with this plugin, ask here for support.
This now concludes how to enable Facebook login in Elgg 1.8

Hey there , I am making a blog and I think some of your articles would fit the context good. Would you care if I post your article?
Which articles in particular? If the content gets reposted somewhere else, it might hurt our SEO. I can get back to you on that.

Hi Rodolfo!
Great article! I am testing out the possibility of using elgg as a social networking platform to our already existing website. Today we use a php script for our food recipe website, but we would like to replace the user profile that exist at the moment to the elgg platform instead. Would that be an easy task to do you think. Is there a plugin you would know of that might be able to make that process easier?
Kind Regards,
Cicilie
Hello!
Such project is hard and it will be expensive to do it. I would strongly recommend to study your project. I think with a good amount of work, elgg can be used stand-alone without the recipe script. You can edit the blog plugin and rename it ‘Recipes’ and make some coding to show it on the front page in a stylish way.

I made a index page that on my site, but when I log in with facebook account it does not redirect to the activity page. It goes back to the custom index page.
Hi!
Ok, do you check on your site if the user is already logged in?
