Test Websites on Multiple Browser Versions

I do not normally write an article for a particular product or service but I came across a product that forced me to write an exception. Let me back up and describe my problem. I created a web site for a client using a jquery plugin and when I tested it in IE 9 everything worked great. I then tested it in safari, Chrome, Firefox and once again everything worked great. Since each of these browsers can be installed side by side on the same computer and seem to work.

Then I got a call telling me that IE 10 had some issues. How do I test IE 10 without uninstalling and installing prior versions? After looking at several articles there is no easy way to do this, then I came across www.spoon.net.

You can download virtuals, click on Compatibility, install and uninstall the different versions or use an emulator but in the end you need something that matches the real environment (or as close to it as possible).

www.spoon.net offers a FREE account that should fit all your needs when making sure that all browsers work according to your design. Look here for all of the browsers that you can use to test your site. What makes this site better than others is that you can use this to test your local web site. This means that as a developer you do not have to deploy your application until you know that it works on all versions.

1. After creating a Free Account you can then log in to your account. (figure 1)

2. Click on -> all applications ->Productivity->Browsers (figure 2)

Note: You can see all of the different browsers that are available

3. Select the browser you want to test and then the browser version

Note: Once you have selected then you should see the browser come up. From here you can try any site.

Important: If you want to test your local web site (development site) then start your application locally. Your local IIS will start it up on a particular port. (See example below). Copy the URL into the above launched browser….Test and when you are done just close it down.
