Display Name Checker in Elgg

Name check is a plugin that allows you to check the display name on the registration form. In this article I will give you a step by step guide on how to check names during new user registration in Elgg 1.8
Overview

One of the things that users dislike is the fact that most websites don’t check if a name is already in use or if it contains invalid characters, and the registration process have to be started all over again. This plugin checks “Display name” during registration against blacklisted characters and removes those immediately and informs the user about it.

Getting started

1. Download Name check for Elgg 1.8/1.9

2. Upload and install the plugin in the mod folder of your Elgg installation. If you don’t know how to do it, read this article.

3. Sign into Elgg as an Administrator. Go to the Administration Dashboard, and then go to menu “Configure -> Plugins” to activate the plugin uploaded.

This plugin is easy to use, you only need to activate it and it works.

4. And that’s it! During registration if the user start typing a name with invalid characters, he will be notified:
