I thought it would be beneficial to go through the calendar options which are included within ocPortal. The Calendar in ocPortal has a wide range of different options which can be used for a wide range of purposes. As you can create many different event types, it allows you to use this for just about any purpose from displaying a list of fixtures for a sports club, a range of tour dates for a band or even a personal diary.
To find the Calendar options in ocPortal you will need to:
- Log into your adminzone
- Navigate to the content section
- Choose calendar
In this section you have 7 main options which are:
- Add and edit event type
- Add and edit an event
- Import an iCal export file
- Export your events to an iCal file
- Choose the custom fields for events.
ocPortal supports a wide range of event types and can support as many as you need to add. When you first install your ocPortal website there will be a range of event types set up including Anniversary, appointment, Birthday, Fixtures and more. If you wish to add a new event type you will need to make sure you have an icon for the new category and with the standard styling these will need to be 28px by 28px. You can also set permissions for each event type for each usergroup you have. The last option is to add custom fields to any events which you add. These fields can be set using the same field types and requirements as fields added to a catalogue. For example they can be simple text boxes or they can validate to be a number or email address. They can also be set to be a single or multi select choice lists.
Adding an event
The first section of the adding an event screen covers the basics of the calendar such as setting the date and time for the start and end of the event. There are options for the title of the event and the event type. You can also set whether the event is validated and showing as live and whether the event is an all-day event.
The next section of the add event screen is a large text area where you can include as much or as little information about the event as possible. This section also supports ocPortal comcode and you can also attach images or files in the normal way.
The Advanced section allows you to set the timezone for the event and whether you want ocPortal to convert the time of the event for other timezones. You can also set whether the event is shared content with the calendar or is for a personal diary as well as setting the priority of the event.
I will cover the recurrences section in more detail in another post
The Next section deals with setting reminders both for the person creating the event and also set automatic reminders for specific usergroups. You can also set how many hours before the event the reminder is sent.
The last two sections deal with allowing users to leave comments and ratings for the event and also the Search engine optimization tagging.
