Hello, and welcome to my blog.
The folks at the Arvixe web hosting service were kind enough to offer me the opportunity do some blogging for them.
Arvixe offers reasonably priced, shared web hosting with unlimited disk space, unlimited data transfer, unlimited email accounts, a free domain name for life (as long as you have a hosting account with Arvixe), and hosting for up to 6 domains — not bad for $4/month (with a 2-year commitment). They also offer free domain privacy. (Full disclosure: Since I’m blogging with them, I joined the Arvixe Affiliate Program, so if you host with them via the links in my golden prose, you’ll be helping support my work with MODX.)\
Before deciding to blog for them, I thought it would be a good idea to try out their MODX-friendly web hosting service, since the blog job comes with a free domain and web hosting account. Setting up MODX on their server was fairly straightforward (with a few minor quirks), and the service so far has been fast and reliable. The MODX Manager is quite snappy on their server and downloading from the MODX repository was fast as well. I was able to set up Articles in about 10 minutes (after I refreshed my memory with the Articles docs).
I’ll be using my first few blog posts to describe installing MODX on the Arvixe server, though most of the information will be useful in describing how to set up MODX anywhere. Once I’ve done that, I’ll devote this blog mostly to MODX and web-development tips and tricks, and since this is a blog, after all, an occasional side trip to what’s on my mind at the moment.
