I have the same problem - the error I get is :
Can't obtain database list from the server.
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Invalid Instance()).]Invalid Connection

I cross-referenced the following three different times today
1) Arvixe server name
2) Your database User name
3) Your database password

I have opened port 1433 on my firewall in XP also

Tech Support gave little help other than to tell me to check the settings - my last try is with you

You need 3 entries for it to work
1) Arvixe server name
2) Your database User name
3) Your database password
NOTE: You can not use windows authentication!
Then, as long as your PC firewall does not block the request and reply, it should work.

Hope this helps
