Today we will be covering how to use the Disk Cleanup Utility within Windows Server 2012 to free up disk space within your VPS account.
To start, you will need to ensure that your VPS has ‘Desktop Experience’ enabled. To do so, simply open your Server Manager, by clicking the icon in the Taskbar.
From Server Manager, simply select the ‘Add Roles and Features’ to begin
From the Roles and Features screen, select features on the left hand side, and then scroll down until you see ‘User Interfaces and Infrastructure (installed)’ and expand the menu.
With options expanded for ‘User Interfaces and Infrastructure (installed)’ you will see a checkbox to install ‘Desktop Experience’
* Please note that there may be additional features that Windows will prompt you to install, in order to install the Desktop Experience feature.
With ‘Desktop Experience’ installed, simply open the Start Screen using the Windows Key on your keyboard, and just begin typing ‘Disk Cleanup’
Once the Disk Cleanup Utility is running, simply place a check mark in the box next to the field you would like to delete (this will permanently remove these files.)
That’s it! Disk Utility will now run, and remove any files you had selected for it to remove, and free up the estimated disk space.
