Upgrading to Elgg 1.9

Elgg 1.9, which is another major elgg release, is just weeks away and as always we strongly recommend to keep your software up to date to avoid security problems. In this article I am going to give a step-by-step guide on how to upgrade to Elgg 1.9

  1. First, make a backup of the elgg database and also of the elgg files. If you don’t know how to make backups, please read the following articles:

2. Download Elgg 1.9. For the purposes of this article we will use a beta version that can be obtained here

3. Upload and overwrite your existing Elgg files. Any modifications should have been written within plugins so that they are not lost after upgrading. If this is not the case, take proper arrangements to maintain your modifications. If you have modified core files, Elgg may not work correctly:

Image_45. Finally, run upgrade.php If you don’t know how to do this, read this article

And that’s it! If you face any issues upgrading, drop a comment.

This concludes Upgrading to elgg 1.9.
