[TomatoCart] Enabling Rich Snippets for Products

In this article, I will teach you how to enable rich snippets for products in TomatoCart’s bootstrap template. What is google structured data?

“Structured data markup” is a standard way to annotate your content so machines can understand it. When your web pages include structured data markup, Google (and other search engines) can use that data to index your content better, present it more prominently in search results, and surface it in new experiences like voice answers, maps, and Google Now.

recipe2So, we just need to add structured data markup into product info page to promote your products in the google searched results.

Step 1. Download the google_structured_data_products.zip from dropbox.

Step 2. Unzip it and you will find a templates directory within it.

Step 3. Copy the templates directory into your TomatoCart root directory via file tools manage in your host cpanel to override the original ones. This step will just modify the product info page. So, it will not impact any other page.

After completing above three steps, the google specific markup for products will be added into the page. If you check the page source with chrome developer console, it is possible to see the result.

Actually, you could verify the results in the google  web masters platform – https://www.google.com/webmasters/. Once you logged into it, please click the structured data menu to check it.

This feature is very important for an ecommerce store online because it may abstract more traffic from google search engine into your store. So, please try to apply it for your store.
