This article explains how you can change an existing skin to add in header or footer content panes and how to make a few minor changes manually to the CSS files to get the look that you are after.

MojoPortal is generally setup to have 3 panes: center, left and right.

As I was posting this article, I noticed that Carol has also posted an article on skins. You only have to take a quick peek at Carol’s sites to realize she really knows what she is talking about.

Carol is using the design tool Artisteer to design and create entirely new skins. I am sure that I will be going down that avenue at some point, but for now, I just want to take an existing skin and make a few changes – for example, to add header and footer panes, change the relative pane widths, change the logo and change a few colors.

The online documentation on the MojoPortal website is pretty good and covers all the basic modules.

What I will do with this article is to quickly add some simple functionality and provide screen shots as I go. You can follow these instructions to get the basic modules added, and then refer to the online documentation to find out more about each module.

Under normal circumstances, once your website has been published, you should make any further changes directly on the published site. However, there may be occasions where it is useful to download the published site. It could be useful if you see an error message on your published site to download the site back to your local environment where you will get more error information; or maybe, if you want to test out some new ideas, or if you want to move your site to another server.
