mojoPortal Tips: Optimizing WebEx Videos to Use in mojoPortal

One of my clients uses WebEx to present real-time online classes for their customers. They’ve decided to expand their business model to include access to recordings of these online classes on demand. With mojoPortal’s new support for video, we were able to create a custom solution to allow registered viewers to watch these videos on the site. However, there are a few steps between what WebEx creates, and what mojoPortal will support – I’ll explain further below the jump.

The videos that can be saved from WebEx sessions are made available in a proprietary .arf format, which requires the installation of the WebEx Network Recording Player. Now it is possible to export these files through the Network Recording Player into a .wmv (Windows Media File) format, or a .SWF. The problem lies within the fact that the .swf format is split out into multiple files, and the .wmv format is proprietary to Windows, and thus not well-supported in browsers other than IE.
