mojoPortal: Latest News Roundup

Last Updated on Thursday, 10 November 2011 07:14 Written by Carole Bennett Saturday, 12 November 2011 06:14

There’s been some really terrific developments in the world of mojoPortal this past month; here’s a rundown on the latest.

1) Form Wizard Pro 2.6.0.4 was released this month; the biggest update is the ability to use aliases for question values and questions. This allows for improved data optimization when capturing responses via form to be imported into databases from .csv or .xls outputs, while maintaining readability.

Example: Location IDs may be a GUID string in the database, but location customers will be more likely to understand “123 Main St.” than “8f40a6e6-bd34-497b-94ee-6317ae273947″ – you can see how being able to use a “human-friendly” label for the response option will ensure higher form completion levels.

mojoPortal users taking advantage of Form Wizard Pro for the first time will appreciate i7media’s article on Form Wizard Pro templates. Accompanying the article are two sample forms to get you started, along with step-by-step explanations on how to import the sample forms.

October was the first month for IndigoTea’s Free mojoPortal Skin of the Month; in honor of the Halloween holiday, an extra Halloween-themed skin was also made available. The IndigoTea site, as well as the client site Appraising In Delaware, were also featured on the mojoPortal.com site.

Shaun Geisert has come up with a nifty time-saver for automating mojoPortal upgrades using Windows Powershell; you can find step-by-step instructions on the Colorado State University site.

One of the most interesting developments for mojoPortal this month has been on the Windows Web App Gallery; mojoPortal is not only one of the featured application downloads, but also the highest-rated application.

mojoPortal: Product Review of Form Wizard Pro

One of the most appealing aspects of using open-source software is the ability to create your own additions and extensions to the base application/framework. However, re-inventing the wheel rarely appeals to anyone, much less developers on tight timelines. That is the reason I chose to leverage the Form Wizard Pro by Joe Audette/Source Tree Solutions, an add-on module for the free mojoPortal CMS.

Installation, as usual with Joe’s “Pro” series of add-ons, went smoothly; once installed, the Form Wizard Pro is accessible from the “Edit Page” screen, just like the built-in features that come bundled with mojoPortal.
