Most designers/developers familiar with jQuery plugins have encountered, and most likely used, the fabulous Nivo Slider. It is absolutely possible to implement the Nivo Slider through a nopCommerce topic, to be incorporated in your nopCommerce solution – I’ve done it myself. However, that requires all sorts of manual manipulation of HTML, and can be incredibly tedious when multiple slides are included; it’s a pain for your users, and if you’re like me, the more they can do on their own, the more time there is to create even more wonderful things. Today, we’ll cover an alternative to the “roll-your-own” method: the Nop Anywhere Slider, and how to customize it to your design needs.

The Nop Anywhere Slider does contain two other slider styles: a standard 2D rotator, and a 3D rotator, but today we’ll focus on the Nivo Slider.

First, we’ll add the Anywhere Slider to our solution, in the “Plugins” folder under Nop.Web:

It’s safe to say that for every target demographic, there’s a unique approach that will best achieve your goal of reaching them. Whether it’s using a color scheme or graphics, or a layout that shows your product line off to its best advantage, there is no one storefront that will appeal to all demographics. It’s a given that you’ll want to customize your nopCommerce store’s appearance to appeal to your customers – let’s touch on ways to modify an existing skin for that purpose.

nopCommerce ships with two web themes: DarkOrange, and nopClassic, under Nop.Web/Themes.

The menu really is the backbone of any website; when it comes to one that processes online transactions, even more so. Keeping a clean and consistent navigation ensures that the user will be able to find the product they want to purchase, pay for it, and keep track of their purchases, and thereby enabling repeat business as well. Each retailer has their own specific needs and concerns, so of course menus will differ. Let’s take a look under the hood of nopCommerce, and see how we can adapt the menu for our customers.

nopCommerce is absolutely amazing open-source e-commerce solution; robust, flexible and extensible, with a terrific community of developers who leverage and support it. This community also provides a wide array of free and premium add-ons to help further extend the capabilities and appearance of your nopCommerce installation. Today, we’ll go through the steps of getting started with your custom layout.
The folks over at Nop-Templates have been so kind as to allow me to take their products for a test drive, so we’ll cover their products I’ve chosen to implement for the custom design I’ve shown here. Open source is great for being able to write your own code, but there are times that it’s just faster and smarter to use products someone else has already put into place.

nopCommerce Tips: How to Create Special Offers in nopCommerce

Last Updated on Thursday, 12 July 2012 09:44 Written by Carole Bennett Friday, 20 July 2012 12:00

Nothing inspires shoppers like a sale, or special offer – I’m inclined to believe that a love of bargains is baked into our DNA somewhere along the line. That being said, there are a number of great ways to provide special offers for your customers using nopCommerce – let’s cover a few of those today.

Free Shipping

Free shipping may not sound like much, but it can make the difference between “buy it now!” and “maybe next time”; one of the most popular e-commerce sites in the world, Amazon.com, uses free “super saver” shipping as a deal-closer by offering it for purchases over $25.00. You can make the same incentive available to your customers via the “Promotions” area in the nopCommerce Administration area.
