In this tutorial I will teach you how to configure permalinks so that you have the option to change your blog’s URL to one of your choice. This can be helpful when you when you choose to have a URL that has the name of the post in it, therefore making it easier to find. To begin, you must be logged in as your sites Admin so that you are given full access. Once you’ve logged in, first click on the ‘Settings’ tab near the top right of your page, then click on the ‘Permalinks’ option in the middle, close to the top of the page.
When the permalinks page pops up, it shows you the different styles you can choose to setup your permalinks as. For example, the option we select at Arvixe for our blogs is ‘Day and Name’ which looks give our blog links and appearance similar to this
http://blog.arvixe.com/2009/01/13/sample-post/ therefore, this blog’s url is going to look like this
http://blog.arvixe.com/2009/01/13/sef-url, as was selected earlier, the url has the Day and Name of the post. In addition to this, on the page you type your actual posts, you can edit the name of your post by selecting the edit option, by the bold permalink text, under your post’s title…
You can also select the ‘Custom Structure’ option and type in something like /%postname%/ , in this case the url to this blog would simply be http://blog.arvixe.com/sef-url/.
When you have finished selecting the permalink structure you would like make sure to click on the ‘Save changes’ on the bottom of the page. With the information given to you in this tutorial, hopefully you are able to to make access to your blog a little easier and more convenient.
