Hi! We all know that building a website is only the first step in the process of getting our site’s message out to the world. One of the best assets to make sure that message gets out to the world is by leveraging the Google Webmaster Tools. Submitting a website through the Webmaster tools allows Google to properly index your site, improving its visibility to potential site visitors.
Webmaster Tools has a section to allow site owners to submit their sitemaps for Google to index. MojoPortal actually has 3 sitemaps, depending on which add-ins you are using. We will use IndigoTea.com as an example; we leverage both the Blog and the Web Store features, so we are leveraging all three sitemaps. You can locate these sitemaps in your mojoPortal installation at:

(your website URL)/blog/blogsitemap.ashx
(your website URL)/webstore/productSiteMap.ashx
The Google Webmaster Tools integrates tightly with Google Analytics, so it is worthwhile to set up your mojoPortal installation in both. You do not have to have a Google account, but it does help to tie everything together, and have easier access to your site stats.
We will not go into setting up the Google Webmaster Tools and Analytics for your site in this article; instead, we will go on the presumption that you have got your Webmaster Tools account set up, and have already added your website to the Tools by following Google’s step-by-step instructions. You will see in the screenshot above that we have already added our sitemaps, visible in the bottom right corner. When you are ready to add your own, you will click on the “More” link underneath this section.
You will then see the Sitemaps screen, as shown above. You will see the “Submit a Sitemap” button; this will allow you to enter as many of the sitemaps as you are using for your current mojoPortal installation. Once you have saved your entry, it will take a few moments for Google to upload and index the sitemap. Not long afterward, you will start seeing an uptick in site traffic in about a day, as the indexing begins to be assimilated by Google, and your site content will be used in the Google search algorithms.
The best part about this is that once Google indexes your site in greater details, the other search engines (Bing, Yahoo!, etc.) will also pick up your indexed information. After about a month, you will be able to log into Webmaster Tools and have a very clear picture of which pages are visited the most often, and what content/metatags are working best for your site.
