The private messaging plugin for elgg is extremely basic. CKEditor adds a way to at least do some text formatting to private messages, however if you want to send a file to another user, you are going to have a bad time, since it doesn’t have this feature out-of-the-box yet. The Message File Transfer tool fills this gap, and provides an easy way to share file between users with the private messaging plugin.

Getting Started

1. Download the “Messages File Transfer” and “Elgg Token Input” for elgg.

2. Upload and install both plugins.

3. Log into your elgg network with the admin account. Open the Administration Dashboard and go to menu “Configure -> Plugins“:

4. First activate the “Token Input” Plugin:

5. Now activate the “Message File Transfer” Plugin:

6. Both plugins are now up and running. Now you can send files using the private message plugins! It doesn’t matter if files are private or public, the recipient will receive a copy that can be downloaded without problems!
