Arvixe offers Remote IIS Management with all ASP/ASP.NET packages. To make a remote IIS Management username, use the “Management” tab in your control panel. The tab is located under the website properties of the website you wish to manage.
Now follow these steps to make the connection from your PC
- Open Internet Information Services (IIS) 7 Manager
- Click on Connect to site… (picture 1)

- Enter the Server name (you can use your domain name or the server’s alternate address or even the shared IP of the server)(picture 2) and click Next.

- Now put in the User name and Password as we provided them to you for this (picture 3) and click Next.

- A popup will appear about the Server Certificate Alert. Click on Connect to continue.

- Now give the connection a name (picture 5) and click Next.

- That’s it, you’re now connected! (picture 6)

If a “Permission Denied” error is presented, make sure the directory of the website has proper permissions. To do this, use your file manager to modify the permissions to allow the username of the website(usually named the same name as the website) read and write access to the directory and subfolders.
That should solve one type of “Permission Denied” error. If after that you are still receiving errors, contact support and request them to make sure that the remote IIS username that you specified(provide that along with your account username) has access to the site in IIS7. This should be done by default once remote IIS is enabled, but in very specific setups it may require it manually.

Mind you. The Username and password are the ones you provide in the Management tab of Websites Section of the Control Panel

I highly recommend you update this article to include the following mandatory step that is not at all obvious from the article:
Before attempting to use Remote IIS Manager you must enable it from the control panel as follows:
– Go to control panel -> Websites -> Select your website.
– Click the Management tab.
– At the bottom of the page, enter a user name and password then apply your change.
This is the username and password you must use to login to Remote IIS Manager.

Can I create a virtual directory with the Remote IIS Manager??

I can’t seem to find the Management Tab in my control panel (Website Panel)…..where is it supposed to be at? For some reason I cannot find it and I can’t log in to the IIS Manager because it keeps telling me I don’t have authorization.

One gotcha if you cannot connect despite this – when you set the password via the web-interface (Login -> Web -> websites -> (select your website -> Management tab) , it truncates the password for some reason. But when you enter the password in IIS Manager, it allows you to put the full password. I had a long password and didn’t notice this truncation and because of the mismatched password lengths was always unable to connect.
If you set a shorter password (10 chars or less) you will be ok.
Arvixe, can you allow for more characters in the password field? 10 chars is quite small for administrative functions on a public facing site !
Site has been opened successfully, but there is a problem when you use anything in Control Panel, I get this message
there was an error while performing this operation
details:
filename: machine / webroot / shuokhislam.com
error: cannot read configuratin file due to insufficient permissions
I can connect okay, but am getting the following error when I click on one of the sub-folders on the website and try to convert it to an application (virtual directory):
“Unable to perform the operation. Please contact your server administrator to check authorization and delegation settings.”
I have made sure that the website user has write and read permissions to all the directories and files. Any ideas?

If you can successfully connect but don’t see any icons in IIS, here’s a tip. When the “New Features Available” dialog pops up after entering the password, select the following: AdminPack.Client, IisClient, and AspnetClient. You need those to see the ASP.NET and IIS sections.
