How to Enable a Three Column River Activity in Elgg 1.8

By default, elgg comes with a two column layout in the Activity page. However, on previous releases there was a way to display three columns instead of two for displaying more information to your users. In this article I will give you a step by step guide on How to enable a three column river activity in elgg 1.8

1. To display this layout on your elgg network, we will use the free plugin 3 Column River Activity, which you can download it here

2. Unzip and upload the plugin to the mod folder of your elgg network to install the plugin. If you don’t know how to do this, please read this article

3. Sign in to your elgg network as an Administrator and go to the Administration Dashboard. There, go to Menu “Configure -> Plugins

4. Look for the plugin and activate it. After activating it, you will see a “settings” link. Click on that to configure the plugin:

5. On the settings page of the 3 column activity river plugin, you can set how many groups you want to show or whether or not you want the 3 column river activity. After you are done setting up the plugin, click save:

6. After saving your settings, run upgrade.php to fully apply the changes on your elgg network. If you don’t know how to run it, please read this article

7. And that’s it, now your Activity page has a 3 column layout!
