How to Change the Text of the Validation Email in Elgg 1.8

When a user opens an account on your Elgg network, he receives a default notification email to validate his account. Many of our Elgg users want to modify the content of that email to make it more personal. In this in article, I will give you a step by step guide on how to change the text of the validation email in Elgg 1.8.

1. First, let’s connect to your site with an FTP Manager. After that we need to open the languages folder, located in YourElgg1.8Folder/mod/uservalidationbyemail/languages/

2. Open the file en.php

3. Now let’s change the text of the new members’ email notifications. For example, instead of telling the new user “Before you can start you using %s, you must confirm your email address. Please confirm your email address by clicking on the link below”, we will change it for something more personal.

Look for this line of code in ‘email:validate:body’ =>.

4. Edit the text that is inside of the double quotes right next to the “=>”, leaving the “%s” intact:

5. Save it. You have just changed the text of the confirmation message that your site automatically sends your new users.

The same procedure is for the rest of the text in that file. Just remember to keep this intact or use it appropriate: %s

This concludes how to edit the text on new members email notifications in Elgg 1.8.
