How to Change the Color of the Top Bar Menu in Elgg 1.8

On a previous post, I explained how to change the color of the top bar. Due to recent changes in Elgg, you have to edit different files to change the color of the top bar menu. This article will give you a step by step guide on how to change the color of the top bar menu in Elgg 1.8. With an FTP manager, log in to your website and follow these steps:

 

 

1) Go to YourElggSite/views/default/css/elements and open the file layout.php

2) Once you opened, we will look for the Topbar section in that file:

3) Now, we are going to change the default top bar color which is #333333 for another color. For the purposes of this guide, we will:

Change the color to Blue and Remove this part of the line:

url(<?php echo elgg_get_site_url(); ?>_graphics/toptoolbar_background.gif) repeat-x top left

4) Save the changes. Clear your web browser’s cache and on your site, run upgrade.php, and you will see the new color of the Elgg top bar:
