I have been getting some emails from Elgg users asking me how to prohibit a registered user from using the website without deleting that user. Because of that, in this article I will give a step by step guide on how to ban a user in Elgg. Sign in to your Elgg site as an Administrator and follow these steps:
1. On the top bar, click on the Administration link:
2. That will take you to the Admin page. Once you are there, on the left side menu, click on User Administration:
3. Now, look for the user that you want to prohibit from using the site. Once you find it, click on the bottom right corner of the user’s profile picture to get a contextual menu:
4. Now, on that Menu, click on Ban:
5. A pop up window will appear asking you to confirm that action. Click on Accept to continue the process:
6. That is it! You will receive a confirmation message and the user will be banned and will not be able to use the site until you allow him:
This now concludes how to ban a user in Elgg
