Backup/Restore Databases in Elgg 1.8

Now elgg offers a free tool to manage databases without opening your cPanel. In this article I will give you a step by step guide on How to backup/restore elgg databases in elgg 1.8

1. First, download the Code Analyzer for Elgg 1.8 plugin for elgg 1.8 here

2. Unzip the plugin in the mod folder of your elgg installation. If you don’t know how to do that, please read this article.

3. Log into your Elgg network as an Administrator, click on the Administration link located in the top bar menu to go to the Admin Dashboard:

4. On the Admin Dashboard sidebar menu, go to menu “Configure > Plugins

5. Find the Database Backups plugin and Activate it:

6. Now, go to menu “Utilities -> Database Backup” to start the backup process:

7. In the Backup page, just click on the Backup DB button to create a backup of the database:

8. If the backup went ok, you will get a notification:

9. For doing a database restore, go to the same Database Backup page, select the database and click on Restore:
