Backup Your phpBB Install from phpMyAdmin

Today I will discuss how to back up your phpBB forums from phpMyAdmin.

First log into your cPanel and navigate to the phpMyAdmin icon click on it and you will be directed to the phpMyAdmin home page.

On the left hand side you will see two links:

information_schema

and the name of your directory.

Click the + box next to the name of your directory. You will see more directories drop down.

phpmy1

Click which database your phpBB is installed in and you will be taken to the following screen:

myphp2

After you see that you click Export and you will then be taken to this screen:

phpbbmyadmin

Ok so this is the export screen you will see the following option

Export method I recommend clicking custom so that you know for sure that you have the proper tables selected and you can compress the file.

Next is the Table(s) selection. Here just click Select All.

Moving on is the next screen shot below:

phpb343

Ok so now we have output options:

Save output to a file you have the following option:

First is the File Name Template that will be the name it is saved as. I keep it the same.

Next is the Character Set of the File. I also keep this as utf-8

Finally is Compression click the drop down menu and selected Zipped. phpbb67

Next is the Format-Specific Options:

Check the following:

Display Comments

Structure and Data under Database system or older MySQL server to maximize output.

phpb454

Next section Object creation options:

Select the following under Add Statements:

Add Drop Table

Add Create Procedure

Create Table Options and both selections under that.

Then click Enclose table and column names with backquotes.

myphpadmin

Next section is Data Creation Options:

You can leave Truncate table before insert and the two selections below that unchecked.

Function to use when dumping data is Insert

Under Syntax to use when inserting data:

Check Both of the above.

Max length of created query is 50,000

The Select Dump binary columns in hexadecimal notation

and

Dump Timestamp columns in UTC.

After that you can click go

It will download the file to your downloads and save as a .zip with the usually the name of your host for example if your account is called roberted so it will save as roberted_phpbb343  the second part is the name of your database in phpBBMyAdmin.
