Enable SEO in OpenCart store

In a previous post related to Mange Search Engine Optimization in OpenCart store, we had seen how to add meta information to  products and categories which will help in making it searchable by search engines.

We had seen there were mostly three important fields available for meta information:

Meta Tag Title:
Title tags are part of the meta tags that appear at the top of your HTML inside the < head> area of generated html. Technically it is title elements of document. Those tags are often used on search engine results pages to display preview snippets for a given page,
and are important both for SEO and social sharing.Think of title tags like the title of the chapter of a book. It tells people and search engines what your page is about.

This is very important for search engines as those are visible on browser,search engine result page and external websites.So, you need to manage them accurately.

Meta Tag Description:

This is extra information shown below title in search engine results. Normally full description is not visible on search result page. It is limited to around 160 characters. These information is also gets indexed by search engines to show relevant results.

Meta Tag Keywords:

These keywords are also used by search engines.



How to Enable Search Engine on Opencart store?

Step 1:

Login to OpenCart Admin panel and navigate to “System>Settings”

Step 2:

Navigate to “Server” tab and you will be able to see option Use SEO URLschange to yes.


Step 3:

Rename “htaccess.txt” to “.htaccess” . It is under your installation root folder.

Refresh store and now you will be able to see SEO enabled url on your product details page, category detail page etc..

This is how you can enable SEO for your opencart based store.
