CSS/JS Minification in Elgg

Performance is something that all web masters seek, in order to increase the load speed of websites. Elgg can be resource demanding, and any little improvement can be crucial. In this article I will give you a step-by-step guide on how to minify CSS and JS in elggGetting Started

1. Download “Minify” plugin for elgg

2. Upload and install the plugin in the mod folder of your elgg network. If you don’t know how to do that, please read this article.

3. Sign into elgg as an Administrator to open the Admin Management Dashboard. Go to menu “Configure -> Plugins“. Search for the “Minify” plugin and activate it:

4. Upon activation, you won’t need to do anything else. Why? Minify will remove any empty spaces on JS and CSS files, which will save important bandwidth, thus increasing the loading speed of your network. While testing, a demo elgg network with a custom theme loaded 4 seconds faster with Minify enabled.
