Configure email settings for Android mobile devices

Setting this up on an Android OS (the Droid X – Android version 2.1 in my instance), follow these steps.

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts > New Account
  2. Select “Email”
  3. Enter your email address and password
  4. UNCHECK the option to automatically configure your account
  5. Next
  6. Select General Settings
    • Account Name (ex: Arvixe Email)
    • Real Name: your email address (ex: [email protected])
    • Email Address: your email address again (ex: [email protected])
  7. Select OK
  8. Select Incoming Server
  9. Tap where it says “POP Mail Server” and select “IMAP Mail Server”
  10. Enter your connection details:
    • Server: mail.[domain_name].com (ex: mail.arvixe.com)
    • Port: 143 (this can also be found in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts)
    • Username: Your email address again (ex: [email protected])
    • Password: the correct password for the email address above
    • UNCHECK “Use secure connection” and “Verify Certificate”
    • Select OK
  11. Select Outgoing Server
  12. Fill in the details:
    • Server: mail.[domain_name].com (ex: mail.arvixe.com)
    • Port: 25 (this can also be found in your webmail login under Settings then Email Accounts)
    • Username: Your email address again (ex: [email protected])
    • Password: the correct password for the email address above
    • UNCHECK “Use secure connection” and “Verify Certificate”
    • Select OK
  13. Select OK again to save all your settings

Important Note:
Be aware that anything you send or receive on your Android phone IS NOT SECURE! That means your password and everything you send is in clear text and can be intercepted by “the bad guys.” This is because the certificate naming conflict with your mail account and your domain do not match. Due to the mismatch of names, the Android phone will error and cause a connection failure. By deselecting the certificate validation check in the settings for the Android phone, you are essentially bypassing the problem in lue of less security.

    I have been trying to set my webmail up since having my phone fixed all day to no avail, even to the point I nearly lobbed my phone across the room lol, I couldnt follow your directions exactly but got enough info to set it up on my G2 Touch again, so top marks and thanks again

    I used these instructions couple years ago to set up my Samsung fascinate. I now have a Galaxy III. The incoming settings work great but the outgoing says can not connect to server. Any idea how too resolve this issue?

    Jeremy,

    On my Galaxy S III, I have the following settings:

    Incoming server:
    Username: {username}@{domain_Name}.com
    Password: {account password}
    IMAP Server: mail.{domain_name}.com
    Port: 993
    Security Type: SSL (Accept all certificates)

    Outgoing server:
    Username: {username}@{domain_Name}.com
    Password: {account password}
    SMTP Server: mail.{domain_name}.com
    Port: 465
    Security Type: SSL (Accept all certificates)
    Require sign-in: SELECTED

    **Note: I am using a third party email application called Enhanced Email.
