How to Change Your phpFox Website’s Favicon
Written by Stephanie Brown Tuesday, 25 September 2012
This article will focus on changing your phpFox website favicon from the default image to your own custom graphic.
The favicon is the 16px by 16px graphic that you see in the address bar or in the tabbed windows of the browser when you visit any page of your website.
The best graphics to use for your favicon are simple ones with one or two colors that match your site. Due to the fact that this graphic is so small, the simpler the design of your favicon, the easier it will be for your members and visitors to recognize it.
You have many options for creating your favicon graphic. You can create it in PhotoShop, Paint, or any other graphic program that you have. Another option would be to use a favicon creation website such as http://www.favicon.cc/
If you choose to create your favicon image in a graphic program, you will need to convert it to the .ico format. You can find websites that will allow you to convert your graphic to a favicon for free. http://www.favicon.cc/?action=import_request is just one example.
Once you have your favicon.ico ready to be loaded to your site you will want to either open your FTP program or login to your cPanel and go to the File Manager.
In the File Manager Menu, select Upload.
Select Browse to upload the favicon.ico from your computer.
When prompted if you want to overwrite the default favicon.ico that is loaded on your website, select Yes.
Once you have uploaded your favicon, you will need to clear your phpFox site’s cache as well as your browser’s cache in order to see the change. Sometimes the browsers need to be restarted after clearing their cache for this change to be able to be viewed.
Congratulations! You have changed your website’s favicon!
