What is DNS?

Hello,

I’ve been reading a couple of articles here at Arvixe about DNS, but none of them explains what DNS actually is. I’ve worked with lots of things related to DNS, but if I had been asked like a week ago for a correct definition of DNS, I wouldn’t have had it. Today, I will provide you with the knowledge I have acquired, so you can understand what DNS actually is.

Recently, a client of mine asked what the Gravatar option in Clip-Bucket was. I knew Clip-Bucket, and a lot of scripts, have it. Wanting to give a better understanding to my client of what it was, I searched the Internet for some more information, until I completely understood how it worked. Here is basically what I told him. Ever noticed that in YouTube, videos can start playing from wherever you seek, I mean if you want to start watching from the middle, you can do it without waiting for it to finish downloading. This is called HTTP Streaming or also known as HTTP Pseudo-Streaming. An explanation on what it does.

Have you ever gone into computers’ system specifications and seen that there is a memory called Cache? Well, for me it was quite different.. I was building a computer to a friend of mine, and I was asking him which processor he wanted to have installed, so when I showed him the options he asked me what the Cache memory was, so I had to explain him.
