Leveraging mojoPortal as a CMS is a smart decision for organizations that need to provide access to protected files and content with access rights defined by user roles within the website itself. However, if you’ve got a lot of files that need to be uploaded at one time, you may feel daunted by the scope of the project. Never fear – there’s a way to upload a large number of files at once, and keep your workload manageable.

For shared files (.pdf, .doc, .xls), we’ll leverage the Shared Files feature in mojoPortal. The prerequisite for being able to upload files in bulk to the Shared Files feature is to have your mojoPortal-based site running in Full Trust. This allows the NeatUpload component to provide the option to select multiple files from your computer, and upload them to your Shared Files feature.

When working with an open-source CMS (content management system) like mojoPortal, it’s a joy to be able to access functionality to configure your mojoPortal-based solution to the specific needs of your clientele. However, when it comes time to update the site to incorporate the latest features and enhancements for mojoPortal, it can be a bit scary to test changes that may break your customizations. We’ll review a simple technique today that’ll allow you to test your current site’s configuration, without causing “live site” breaks.

First, we’ll define the prerequisites needed for testing: a local version of your database of choice (default is MSSQL, which is what we’ll cover today), and a localhost version of your current site (either leveraging IIS, or Visual Studio – it’s easy to download a copy of Visual Studio Express, or with a little bit of initiative, sign up for one of the programs that will allow you access to a free copy of Visual Studio Developer Edition).

One of the very coolest things about working with an open-source project like mojoPortal is that you don’t always have to wait until the next release to see what new features are going to be available. If you’re clever, you can follow the check-in notes on the repository sites like CodePlex. Let’s see how we can get the latest, and look at what new features are coming soon.

First, let’s go over to the mojoPortal Codeplex site: you can always access it via the mojoPortal “Downloads” area as well. Once you’ve clicked into the Codeplex repository, click the “Source Code” tab. Click on the “History” link below that tab; give it a moment to load, and then you’ll see three columns: the one to the far right, labeled “Comments”, is the one we’re wanting to scan.
